WhyKind Foundation
Makes a difference
WhyKind Foundation’s mission is made possible by our sister company’s success in the marketplace, and through generous giving from thoughtful people who believe in our Corporate Kindness and Compassion Mission. WhyKind.com intentionally operates as a B-Corp, which is essentially a low-profit, purpose-driven enterprise. That means we receive donations of a significant amount of the marketplace value they create which in turn, allows us to provide Compassion to people in need. Many of whykind.com’s dispensaries are proudly participating in our SB34 Compassionate Cannabis Program, providing free cannabis products, tax free, to low income patients
The Founder
Paula Walter
It was Paula Walter’s compassion for hurting people that launched our mission: Providing zero-combustion, zero-sugar, healthy cannabis options for people in need. Paula served the people she loved, and her ministry to friends and family grew into a thriving non-profit collective, which eventually divided in two: a for profit corporation and the WhyKind Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.

History
The Original Kind story begins back in 2009 with Paula Walter. For 10 years, her mission was to help people access the healthiest expression of pure plant cannabis medicine. She brought the first recognized CBD-focused capsule to the California cannabis market. Paula personally witnessed the devastation of the AIDS crisis and saw how cannabis in super food oils helped her friends and family in their struggle for wellness. Teaming up with key dispensary partners in the medical market, she found a way to fund her nonprofit Compassion Program through retail sales.
Paula’s Compassionate mission continues today at WhyKind.org. While Kind Creations has grown from a small northern California brand to a state-wide presence with over 100 retail partners, we still manufacture every product by hand with Kindness and Compassion in mind. WhyKind Foundation exists because a small, independently owned, woman-founded business started bring the purest expression of cannabis to all those who need it. Kind Creation’s impact statewide is rooted in Paula’s deep commitment to her compassion for those in need.
WhyKind Foundation Advocacy
As a nonprofit, we’re prohibited by law from advocating for a cannabis-friendly political party, a cannabis-friendly candidate, cannabis-favorable initiatives, laws or causes. We are not allowed to advocate for our opinions on the de-scheduling of Cannabis, or the removal of Federal Prohibitions, the fundamental inequities of the IRS rule 280E, the banking challenges, the margin pressures of excessive taxation, required laboratory testing, nor the oppressively expensive cost of licensing and security. Not a word of persuasion from us on any of those topics. Not one peep. Crickets.
However, we are allowed to advocate for Kindness: as our Compass, our recommended Philosophy of Business, as our promise to each other and everyone we meet. Kindness, as our fundamental frame of reference, means we choose to see all of creation with same loving and caring attitude. To be kind is to treat every living being with a generous heart, irrespective of the recipient’s ability to reciprocate. That is the core of our Compassion story. Supporting and serving those who need with what actually works to ease their life journey. Although it is rational to think about our own well-being and to consider in any situation how we may benefit personally, only thinking rationally isn’t always our most humane response. We could consider how to become more mindful about the people around us, not just because it benefits them, but because it benefits our perception of ourselves and improves the situation. In the end, knowing someone else is benefiting from our kindness can be a bonus of positivity in all our lives
